Project Description
The City of Scottsdale Scottsdale Central Arizona Project Raw Water Pump Station consists of an intake structure from the CAP canal to the CAP WTP. The existing CAP 1 Pump Station contained four (4) gas engine driven pumps @ 18.5mgd capacity each, and one electric pump at 12.5mgd. The five vertical turbine pumps possessed 67 MGD pumping capacity. The project required the station to be upsized from five to six pumps and provide four combination vertical turbine/angle drive pumps @ 20.3MGD with the ability to run as either Natural Gas Engine or VFD Electrical driven pumps.
All work was completed while the CAP 1 Plant remained in operation over an 18 month span. The increase of Electric HP required the Primary Power Substation to be changed from its existing 3750kva to 7500kva.
